About Us

Recently, we changed our name from Kann & Associates to Kann Partners. It's a subtle change, but it represents something important about the way that we work. As Market Partners we successfully form solid alliances with other experienced and talented service providers who complement our team on specific projects. It's simple. Great architecture is a team effort.

We strategically concentrate on specific markets because it allows us to provide the kind of focus that we believe is necessary to do outstanding work. We make it our business to know our clients' industries and operations. Today, our key market segments include Retail/Commercial; Senior Living; and Multi-Family Mixed-Use. And we have always been known for our restoration and preservation work. We make it our business to continue learning, because this is an industry that is evolving. It means staying current, and even ahead, of changes in building codes, engineering breakthroughs, design trends, industry standards, the latest in "green" construction, and so on.

Our Story

Maintaining the integrity of an environment is important to us. Our approach to design is characterized by evolution, rather than revolution. That's why our history includes so much work in preservation and restoration, and why today, we always consider sustainable design.

As architects and planners we look ahead to what can be. An idea becomes a design concept. A design concept becomes a set of drawings. And a set of drawings becomes a new building. It is our job to understand the impact of that building on its environment, now and over time. We look ahead ten years, twenty years, fifty, to understand the impact of that building over time. Buildings are not constructed in vacuums. They are surrounded by other structures, by green spaces, by communities, by history. Each one is a story, with a past to be considered and a future to be shaped. Our job is to integrate the past sensitively and to influence the future responsibly.

In a field where so much changes, it's important that some things do not. We were founded in 1974. Since then, design and materials have changed. Construction techniques have evolved. Green has emerged as an influential concept. Technology has streamlined the design and delivery process. Yet our core values remain the same. It is our people-- our outstanding staff and the principals who provide leadership and inspiration-- and how we work together. This firm has always been and will always be about collaboration, consensus and commitment.
