Weinberg Terrace, built three years after Weinberg Gardens, sits on an adjacent site and consists of 87 apartments for independent seniors. Also developed by Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. (CHAI), the award-winning facility was designed to achieve many of the same accessibility and lifestyle goals as Weinberg Gardens, and includes a variety of communal dining and activity spaces, as well as a multipurpose/dining room for residents receiving assisted-living services to accommodate aging-in-place. All common areas are fully ADA-accessible; all apartments are handicap-adaptable, in accordance with the Fair Housing Act, with several being fully handicap-accessible for tenants with sight, hearing and/or other physical impairments. In addition, the building was designed to complement the architectural style of Weinberg Gardens, and to respect the integrity of an historic “champion” tree located on the site. Full architectural services were provided. The project was funded primarily through the HUD Section 202 program.
