Built in the 1980s, Lake Shore Plaza is a 161,000 sq. ft. grocery-anchored center with a 20,000 daily traffic count anchored by Safeway and Ace Hardware. The design objective for this repositioning effort was to rid the strip mall of its heavy masonry and gloomy corridors to create a “village center.” By replacing the cinderblock columns with white porch-front columns, the walkways have the appeal of a veranda and encourage strolling from shop to shop. Rather than rid the Plaza of its central feature, the tower, KANN Partners elected to engage it and weave it throughout to give the center consistency and uniformity. Construction on this project is currently underway.
