Druid Hill Park, June 22, 2009
So after a 6 - 2 loss to the City Planners, and an unexpected "bye" week last week, the KANNibals showed up to play last night with a 24-9 (!) shellacking of ILEX. The turn out was great and everyone gave their all.

Adrienne Searcy pitched a great game and Jake Ulrich hit a home run. New comers An & Dean played well in their first games of the season, and everyone was happy to welcome back Tom Ulrich to the field after having had hip replacement surgery in the off season.

A multitude of errors on ILEX's part helped turn what may have been an ordinary victory for the KANNibals into a lobsided thrashing.

This evens the KANNibals record at 2-2 for the year. Everyone really put their work in and it paid off for the team.

Druid Hill Park, June 1, 2009:
The KANNibals played well enough to win last night's game against Daleo, but in the end, fell a couple overthrows and a couple Daleo batted balls into the mud puddles short.  Playing in poor field conditions, both teams made the best of it and adopted an 'automatic single' rule for balls batted into the large mud puddles, which laid claim to the gap between shortstop and third base.  I am convinced that the puddles created some sort of gravitational pull on the field because numerous balls were sucked into the muddy vortex.

Backed by spectacular defensive plays in the field and solid run production every inning, the KANNibals battled Daleo for seven strong innings before finally falling one run short after their last at bats in the bottom of the 7th.  With a final score of 13-12, the Kannibals season long win streak ends at 1.

Druid Hill Park, May 18, 2009:
The softball team started the season off on the right foot last night, defeating Hayles & Howe by a score of 9 to 8. Jake Ulrich had the game winning single in the bottom of the 7th inning, and Liz and Adrienne combined for a solid pitching performance.

After giving up 4 runs in the first inning, we fought our way back to cut the lead to 4 - 2. After entering the 7th inning we had managed to attain a 7 to 6 lead with 3 outs to go. However, we gave up 2 runs in the top of the 7th , forcing us to bat one last time to see if we could take back the lead. After Liz and Adrienne reached base on singles, Jake drove them in with the game winning hit.

Although we were short on men, the women all played exceptionally well both defensively and offensively. New comer Susan Jarvis as well as fan-favorite Jaimie Roudebush both reached base numerous times. (Jaimie also took a bad hop from a hard ground ball in the throat, but bravely stayed on the field and finished the game.)

Coach Sanchez also had a homerun, a triple, and 5 RBI's in 3 at bats.
